Supervision

Clinical Supervision for Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and Psychotherapists

140 British pounds
Online supervision

Supervision can be tailored to meet your needs, whether you are prioritising model concordance with CBT or looking for a space to reflect on challenges in your clinical work. I have supervised many clinicians over the years and I am committed to providing a supportive yet challenging environment to help therapists work towards their own goals as clinicians. My main model is CBT and this comprises the primary approach to supervision. My strengths as a supervisor are working with complex presentations and helping other therapists reflect on, and manage, their own thoughts and feelings that can emerge in therapy. I have additional training in MBT, systemic models, CFT and other third wave approaches, and an interest in psychoanalytic approaches, particularly in relation to working with organisations and teams. Please contact Dr. Matthew Richardson by email, phone or using the contact form in order to enquire about availability or for any other general enquiries.

About

Dr. Matthew Richardson, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Chartered Clinical Psychologist (CPsychol), Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society (AFPBsS), HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.

CBT

I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is a well tested and validated psychological therapy with an established evidence base. This means that there is substantial evidence from research trials that CBT is effective for a wide range of mental health difficulties, including Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders (including Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Bipolar Disorder and Psychotic Disorders. It is also helpful for overcoming stress and difficulties with low self-esteem.

Mindfulness

I am trained in teaching mindfulness in groups and to individuals. Developing skills in mindfulness can help people manage their difficulties with greater skill, learning to be more present more of the time and getting more in touch with their valued goals and desires.

MBT

Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) is an evidence-based approach to help people with their mood and interpersonal relationships. It is en effective approach for helping people understanding how their early attachments impact their relationships now and learn how to better understand themselves and others, so that they can relate to others with greater skill.

As an experienced psychologist, I can draw on multiple models in my work with clients. A criticism often directed at CBT is that it works only at a superficial level. I think it is an effective intervention, but drawing on other models and approaches can help people understand their difficulties better in order to achieve changes that can be sustained over time.
